Zohran Mamdani said he will be calling Donald Trump.
In an interview, he admitted that “This is a relationship that will be critical to the success of this city.”
New York City (NYC) Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani explained that the relationship he has with President Donald “will be critical to the success” of the city, and added that he plans to call Trump before taking office.

When asked by Russo if Mamdani planned to call Trump, he stated that he would “be reaching out to the White House” prior to entering office.
“This is a relationship that will be critical to the success of this city,” Mamdani added.
Trump previously called out Mamdani for remarks he made in his victory speech.
Trump said, “I think it’s a very dangerous statement for him to make. He has to be a little bit respectful of Washington, because if he’s not he doesn’t have a chance of succeeding.”
Trump said in an interview with Fox News’ Special Report last week that he wants to see Mamdani do well, but warned the incoming mayor needs to be respectful of Washington.
“I would like to see the new mayor do well, because I love New York,” Trump, a New York City native, said in an interview with Fox News’s Bret Baier on “Special Report.”
Trump cited Mamdani’s warning to Trump in his victory speech that “to get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”
“I think it’s a very dangerous statement for him to make. He has to be a little bit respectful of Washington, because if he’s not he doesn’t have a chance of succeeding,” Trump said on Fox News.
