Paul Ryan predicted that Donald Trump would not be the Republican nominee for President in 2024.
Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan predicted Thursday that former President Trump will not be the Republican nominee in 2024 and that he only holds power within the Republican Party because “everybody’s afraid of him.”
Why it matters: Ryan’s comments come as other potential Republican 2024 candidates wait to hear Trump’s plans for the upcoming election and as GOP lawmakers have growing concerns about the eligibility of the former president.
What he said: Ryan said during an interview with the consulting firm Teneo that Trump still has sway within the GOP because “everybody’s afraid of him.”
Donald Trump released a statement blasting Paul Ryan and calling him out for trying to stop the construction of the border wall.
The grossly incompetent former Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, who was an even worse V.P. candidate with RINO Mitt Romney, and a man who couldn’t run for “dog catcher” in the Great State of Wisconsin (he quit), did everything possible to stop the construction of the Southern Border Wall. He was almost as bad as the Dems, but I got it done, including certain additions, anyway. It made a big difference, and is a primary reason we set record lows on illegals pouring in. Dopey Paul was bad news!
