U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) says it has taken immigration enforcement actions to revoke or terminate the status of approximately 2.2 million immigrants since Jan. 20, 2025, as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to tighten enforcement of federal immigration laws.

According to a press release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the actions are part of a broader effort to address what the administration describes as the effects of the Biden administration’s border policies and restore integrity to the nation’s immigration system.

USCIS said its enforcement efforts include ending certain Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations, denying applications to extend or change nonimmigrant status when there is no legal basis, and issuing Notices to Appear (NTAs) to place individuals facing removal into proceedings before an immigration judge.

The agency also ended automatic extensions of employment authorization documents, saying the change will ensure applicants are screened and vetted before their work authorization is renewed. Additionally, USCIS said it has terminated categorical parole programs and returned parole decisions to a case-by-case review process.

DHS said the 2.2 million figure represents USCIS enforcement actions and is separate from visa revocations and denials issued by the Department of State, as well as removals carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a X post, “President Trump promised the American people that our immigration laws would be enforced, and these numbers reflect the scale of that commitment.”

The Trump administration is making America safer!
