Mitch McConnell was hospitalized on Sunday morning.
According to his team, “he is receiving excellent care.”
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was hospitalized for an undisclosed health issue, according to his office.
“Sen. McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning,” McConnell’s Communications Director David Popp told Fox News. “He is receiving excellent care.”
McConnell has been experiencing various health concerns over the last few years.
He froze when speaking in 2023 and has suffered multiple falls.
He was also hospitalized for eight days with flu-like symptoms.
It is not the first time McConnell, 84, has experienced health concerns in recent years. On two occasions in 2023, he froze while speaking with reporters. He has also had multiple falls and at one point used a wheelchair, a move his office described at the time as a precautionary measure.
In February, McConnell, a polio survivor, was hospitalized for eight days for what his spokesperson described at the time as “flu-like symptoms.”
McConnell served as Senate Republican leader from 2007 to 2025. He announced in February of last year he would not seek reelection, ending a decades-long career as one of the most consequential Republican leaders of his generation.
