Former CEO Jeff Zucker is likely to make a bid to buy the network.
Amid growing speculation that Warner Bros. Discovery may sell CNN in the coming year, sources told the New York Post that former CNN CEO Jeff Zucker is “likely” to make a bid to purchase the network.
Zucker allegedly “holds a grudge,” and wants to find a way to “be back on top” after he was ousted from the network more than one year ago, a source close to Zucker told the Post.

“Jeff is likely going to make a bid this fall to purchase,” a source with knowledge told the New York Post. Zucker sees an opportunity to take the helm of CNN ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
This month, CNN’s CEO, Chris Licht, was fired from his post after he tried to steer the network toward a more centrist position. An industry insider told the Post that Licht’s firing is a “sign” that Warner Bros. Discovery is “readying the cable news network for a sale.”
Zucker resigned from the network after having a consensual relationship with a key lieutenant.
CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker, the influential news executive who reshaped the iconic network, announced Wednesday morning that he has resigned from his position effective immediately.
Zucker’s stunning announcement came less than two months after he fired prime time anchor Chris Cuomo for improperly advising his brother, then-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, about how to address sexual misconduct allegations.
“As part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo’s tenure at CNN, I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, someone I have worked with for more than 20 years,” Zucker told employees in a memo. “I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years. I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn’t. I was wrong. As a result, I am resigning today.”
Zucker did not name his colleague, but the relationship is with Allison Gollust, his key lieutenant for the last two decades. Gollust is remaining at CNN.
