Fox News reported:

A growing number of Democrats are trying to divert attention away from President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday through their absences amid a limited set of options for peaceably voicing their displeasure with the administration.

A number of Democrats will instead attend the “People’s State of the Union” event held near the Lincoln Memorial.

The event will draw senators like Ed Markey, D-Mass., Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., Chris Murphy, D-Conn., Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Tina Smith, D-Minn.,

On the House side, Democrats attending will include Reps. Yassamin Ansari, D-Ariz., Becca Balint, D-Vt., Greg Casar, D-Texas, Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., John Larson, D-Conn., Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Calif., Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., Sara Jacobs, D-Calif., Emily Randall, D-Wash., and Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-N.J.

Trump said his State of the Union will be a “long speech.”

The Hill reported:

President Trump said Tuesday’s State of the Union address will be a “long speech,” leaving room for the president to set a new record while also reasserting his administration’s accomplishments ahead of November’s midterm elections.

Trump is scheduled to take to the House floor at 9 p.m. EST for the prime-time address.

Last year, Trump gave the longest address to Congress ever.

USA Today reported:

President Donald Trump is preparing to deliver another lengthy address to Congress, with his first formal State of the Union of his second stint in office set for Feb. 24 — less than a year after he delivered the longest speech ever recorded before a joint session.

Trump’s 2025 address to Congress ran 1 hour, 39 minutes and 32 seconds, according to the University of California–Santa Barbara’s American Presidency Project, setting a new record for the longest State of the Union or joint session speech. The previous mark was held by former President Bill Clinton, whose final State of the Union in 2000 lasted 1 hour, 28 minutes and 49 seconds.
