Another candidate is entering the 2024 race.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is reportedly going to file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25th, this coincides with a donor meeting in Miami.

A more formal launch is reportedly coming on May 29th.

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the 2024 U.S. presidential race next week, according to two sources familiar with the decision, immediately becoming Donald Trump’s biggest rival for the Republican nomination and shaking up a contest that largely has been one-sided.

DeSantis will likely file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, with a more formal launch the week of May 29, according to a source.

A recent Rasmussen poll gave bad news to DeSantis.

It found 62% of likely Republican voters would vote for Donald Trump in the GOP primary. Only 17% would vote for DeSantis – no other candidate is over 10%.

Months ahead of the first 2024 primaries, former President Donald Trump leads his would-be challengers for the Republican presidential nomination by a substantial margin.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 62% of Likely Republican voters would vote for Trump in the primaries, while 17% would vote for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Several other announced or possible 2024 candidates have single-digit support among GOP voters: Former Vice President Mike Pence (6%), former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley (5%), former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (3%) and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy (2%). (To see survey question wording, click here.)
