Joe Biden’s agenda just hit a roadblock.

Biden nominated Gigi Sohn to run the Federal Communications Commission.

Her nomination has now been withdrawn due to past social media posts and views on net neutrality.

Fox News reported:

President Joe Biden’s pick to run the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) withdrew her name from consideration Tuesday, the White House confirmed.

Gigi Sohn, whom the White House first nominated in October 2021, said her decision came in response to “unrelenting, dishonest and cruel attacks” from cable and media industry lobbyists, the Washington Post first reported.

Sohn ruffled feathers with her past social media posts and views on certain key issues that prevented the Senate from ever holding a floor vote on her confirmation. During the Obama administration, Sohn was one of the chief architects of net neutrality, a cornerstone of progressive telecom policy, which was reversed by the free-market types who ran the FCC under former President Donald Trump.

Sohn said the attacks on her took an “enormous toll” on her and her family.

Had Sohn’s nomination been approved Democrats would have had an edge on the FCC.

It currently sits tied at 2-2. This will hamper Biden’s ability to pass his agenda.

Axios reported:

Gigi Sohn, President Biden’s pick for a tie-breaking seat on the Federal Communications Commission has withdrawn her nomination, Axios has confirmed.

With her withdrawal, the FCC remains deadlocked with two Republican and two Democratic commissioners, making it difficult for the Biden administration to implement key parts of his domestic policy agenda.

Democrat Senator Joe Manchin previously announced he would vote against Sohn.

For nearly 100 years, the FCC has been an independent, nonpartisan regulator of all forms of communication in American life, from radio to television to satellite. Unfortunately, over the last several years, it has become increasingly politicized. The FCC must focus on issues of critical importance to West Virginian and Americans, such as updating broadband coverage maps, addressing compromised Chinese equipment and products that threaten the security of our communications infrastructure, and ensuring every American has access to affordable Internet services.

Especially now, the FCC must remain above the toxic partisanship that Americans are sick and tired of, and Ms. Sohn has clearly shown she is not the person to do that. For those reasons, I cannot support her nomination to the FCC, and I urge the Biden Administration to put forth a nominee who can bring us together, not drive us apart.

Big win!
