A bipartisan group of Senate negotiators will announce on Sunday that it reached a tentative agreement on legislation that would pair modest new gun restrictions with significant new mental health and school security investments, The Washington Post, CNN and other media outlets reported.
The deal centers around extra scrutiny for gun buyers under the age of 21, grants to states to enact so-called “red flag” laws and new spending on mental health treatment and school security, Politico reported. A group of senators is expected to announce Sunday that a significant number of lawmakers in both parties are behind their proposal responding to rising gun violence.
